Ok, so I know I did a bad thing. I am reading John Connolly’s Charlie Parker novels out of order. This is the second book in the series. I couldn’t get hold of the first one (Every Dead Thing, which I am now reading) and it came on recommendation from the lad. I am enjoying the first one more than the second - it’s better written and a little less less trite….
This is a great, no-thought-needed, carried along by the story, not-taxing type-book. It’s a detective fiction with a bit of mafia-type New York style thrown in and a little of the ghostly-ghouly going on (which I am still sitting on the fence about). There’s really silly lines in it, a bit hammed up, but you kind of get to love the characters, especially Angel and Louis. I’ll keep reading because it’s easy and fun, am on the first one now (which is my second one of the series, if you see what I mean). Totally enjoyable read.
